B.U.I.L.D Fund

Driving shared investment in construction development

The B.U.I.L.D Fund is a national funding mechanism that pools contributions from construction clients to support programmes that strengthen South Africa’s construction industry. It is built on the principle that sustainable industry growth requires collective investment and shared responsibility across the sector.

To ensure transparency and accountability, the Fund is audited annually by both the cidb and the Auditor-General of South Africa. A minimum of 80% of contributions is directed towards development initiatives, including skills development and enterprise support, while no more than 20% is allocated to programme administration.

How the B.U.I.L.D Fund works

Public sector clients are required to contribute to the Fund for:
  • Construction projects valued above R20 million
The contribution is set at 0.2% of the total project value, capped at R2 million per project, ensuring affordability while maximising impact. Once a project is registered on the cidb Register of Projects, the contribution process is initiated through a streamlined invoicing system, making compliance simple and efficient.
