Development programmes for contractors

Overview

Contractors create jobs and build infrastructure, the backbone of the economy. Boosting contractor’s capacity to deliver and maintain infrastructure whilst running sustainable enterprises is a core cidb value. Contractors can now take advantage of cidb initiatives aimed at uplifting enterprises through funded training and assessments, as well as through development opportunities for subcontractors.

Construction Management Systems are a cidb standard that leads to SANS 1393 certification. The Standard applies to contractors in cidb Grades 5 to 8 General Building and Civil Engineering.
Assessment of Prior Learning (APL) ascertains a contractors’ development needs as a precursor to development interventions. APL applies to contractors in Grades 2 to 6.
The cidb Standard for Enterprise Development mandates clients to build into construction contracts above R20m, provision for subcontractors to get development support from the main contractor.
The B.U.I.L.D Programme is a groundbreaking cidb initiative designed to harness the power of construction projects to drive industry-wide development and transformation.
