The Department of Public Works in Conjunction with the cidb to Host a Workshop on the Framework and Implementation Guidelines for the National Contractor Development Programme (NCDP)
A workshop on the revised Framework and Implementation Guidelines for the NCDP will be hosted 26 and 27 October 2011 and is expected to be attended by stakeholders including infrastructure clients from national, provincial and local government. The workshop will focus on challenges regarding implementation of best practices and monitoring and evaluation of contractor development programmes. It will also strive towards streamlining of stakeholder efforts in support of the NCDP and a transformed construction industry. Health and Safety Plan Development Course offered in Polokwane

cidb 7th Post Graduate Conference, First Announcement and Call for Papers
The cidb, in association with the Department of Construction Economics, University of Pretoria, will be hosting the 7th Post Graduate Conference from 9 to 11 October 2011 in Pretoria. The conference theme for this year is "Adding Value to the Built Environment", with the main topics of "Sustainability", "Quality" and "Innovation". Women in Construction 2011: Nominations are Open!
The cidb invites nominations for the 2011 Women in Construction Excellence Awards. Nominees must be cidb registered, 51% women owned and top achievers in their grades. Nominations must be submitted to the Construction Contact Centre in the province in which the contractor is registered and must be accompanied by the completed Nomination Form and Performance Report Form. The closing date for submissions is 15 April 2011.

2010

cidb SAFCEC Workshop; Bloemfontein
cidb, in partnership with SAFCEC, will be hosting a workshop on Joint Ventures and Subcontracting for Grades 3 to 7 General Building (GB) and Civil Engineering (CE) contractors. The workshop is scheduled to take place on 1 December 2010 at Rose Hall, Bloemfontein (Free State), from 08h00 until 12h00 and will be facilitated by Mr Neville Gurry from SAFCEC. cidb One Day Summit; 18 November 2010
cidb will be hosting a one day summit in East London for all Grade 3-9 registered contractors in the Eastern Cape. The summit will focus on contracting options to facilitate growth and development in the construction industry. Click here to view the invitation and the booking form.

National Woman in Construction Awards; 31 August 2010
In honour of women contractors who are successful in building sustainable, growing enterprises against odds in the construction sector, the cidb and the national Department of Public Works hosted the national Women in Construction Excellence Awards in Johannesburg on 31 August 2010. The national awards brought to a culmination, provincial celebrations to recognise women achievers on the cidb Register of Contractors who are performing exceptionally well in delivering infrastructure projects whilst building successful enterprises. Nominations for Contractor Awards Invited
The cidb and partners invite the industry to nominate construction companies for the Woman in Construction Excellence Awards which will be held in August 2010. The awards recongnise successful woman-owned contractors in grade 1 - 7 who are dlivering exceptional value to clients and are growing their enterprises into sustainable, profitable businesses. They also recognise established contractors in grade 8 and 9 who are providing exceptional support to grow and develop women owned contractors. Click here for more information.

The 2010 Construction Summit; 26 to 27 May; Gallagher Estate; Johannesburg
The Construction Industry Development Board (cidb) and the Chartered Institute of Builders (CIOB) will host their first ever summit on the most topical issues facing the African and International construction industry. Topics to be covered at the summit include "Breakdown of SA governments R846 billion infrastructure budget"; "Sustainable infrastructure solutions" and "Mitigating climate change". 2009

cidb and Department of Roads and Public Works will host JBCC Seminar
The cidb will in partnership with the Department of Roads and Public Works host seminars on Joint Building Contracts Commitee (JBCC) in East London and Port Elizabeth on the 24th and 25th November 2009 respectively . Minister Geoff Doidge Hosts cidb Stakeholder Forum 2009
The Minister of Public Works, Geoff Doidge, met with the new Construction Industry Stakeholder Forum on 23 October 2009 in Gauteng. Topical issues discussed included progress with the Best Practice Registers, public sector procurement reform and capacity, and contractor development.

Women in Construction Excellence Awards; 2009
The cidb hosted the Excellence in Construction Awards for women contractors and established contractors for gender empowerment in July and August 2009. The awards were hosted in the different provinces culminating in the national gala event in Johannesburg on 27 August 2009.

Women in Construction Excellence Awards
The Excellence in Construction Awards recognise achievements of women contractors in self empowerment as well as outstanding contribution by established contractors to gender empowerment in the construction sector. Awards in various provinces will be given to cidb registered contractors in the categories of Small, Medium and Large business enterprises. The cidb will host provincial awards in KwaZulu-Natal on 31 July 2009, Eastern Cape on 1 August 2009 and in Gauteng on 6 August 2009. The national awards will be held in Johannesburg on 27 August 2009.

6th Post Graduate Conference is set to take place in September 2009
The conference is organised by the cidb and the Department of Construction Management and Quantity Surveying of the University of Johannesburg, under the theme: Sustainable Construction Through Quality and Innovation Beyond 2010. It seeks to encourage debate amongst researchers, students and people working in the built environment. Papers presented at the conference are expected to focus on new research themes and topics and innovative research strategies.

Youth in Construction
Youth in Construction is an annual careers exhibition for the construction industry targeting pupils between grade 8 and 12. This showcase of limitless career opportunities existing in the construction industry will in 2009 take the first steps to becoming a national event by including Gauteng, the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal regions. The 2009 exhibition will be held in Gauteng on 27 - 31 July, KZN 4 -6 August and Western Cape 18 - 20 August 2009. Additional information is available on www.youthinconstruction.co.za

cidb Stakeholder Forum
The Construction Industry Stakeholder Forum is constituted in terms of the cidb Act (Act 38 of 2000) to inform the Board on issues that affect the industry. The Forum provides an opportunity to promote understanding and support for construction industry development and improved delivery of infrastructure to the South African public. Stakeholder Forum which convenes annually promotes dialogue on industry progress with a special focus on improved quality and service, highlighting necessary partnerships for value-added industry improvement and development. The date for 2009 Stakeholder Forum will be communicated within the near future.
