The Inauguration of the new cidb Board
The new Board of the cidb appointed in June 2014 was officially inaugurated on 29 August 2014 by Minster TW Nxesi at a special ceremony attended by cidb management and other industry stakeholders. To read Minister’s keynote address click here.

cidb Best Practice Fee: for Public Comment
In terms of Section 23 within Chapter Four of the Construction Industry Development Board Act, “Every client who engages in the best practice project assessment scheme must pay to the Board a prescribed percentage of the contract sum as determined at the time of the awarding of the contract.” A discussion document pertaining to the magnitude of the “prescribed percentage of the contract sum” (the cidb Best Practice Fee) was published in the government gazette on 15 August for public comment. Concrete Newsletter
The cidb has launched its newsletter “Concrete” to keep in touch with industry stakeholders. Concrete covers topics of industry interest and also updates stakeholders on status and progress of different cidb programmes as well as industry developments. cidb Western Cape Office Relocation
The cidb Western Cape Provincial Office has relocated to no. 4 Dorp Street, Cape Town. The new location of the office is within the Government Precinct and diagonally across the road from the previous office. It affords the Provincial Office much bigger space and will allow the cidb to host meetings of the Provincial Construction Development Forum (PCDF), the Construction Procurement Officers (CPO) Forum and other stakeholder meetings on the premises. Minister Nxesi appoints the new cidb Board
Congratulations to the newly appointed cidb Board members. They are: Lindelwa T. Myataza, Nazreen S. Pandor, Gonasagran Maduray, Nomsa Jacobs-Skweyiya, Sipho A. Mosai, Lefadi L. Makibinyane, Natalie C. Skeepers, Selaelo M. Makhura, Vuyiswa V. Sidzumo, Mandisa Fatyela-Lindie, Hareesh L. Patel and Nico Maas. Minister Thulas Nxesi has wished the new Board a successful term of office.

The cidb Hosts the 9th National Stakeholder Forum
The 9th cidb National Stakeholder Forum convened on 27 February 2014 as a follow-up to the National Stakeholder Forum meeting of 04 July 2013. The meeting aimed to report on progress and issues deferred by the Forum to task teams that were established at the 2013 meeting. The focus was mainly on contractor development, review of the cidb contractor registration criteria, integrity management, monitoring of public sector infrastructure delivery, the Construction Charter and implementation of the BBBEE Scorecard. cidb 8th Post Graduate Conference successfully convened: February 2014
The cidb hosted another successful 8th Postgraduate Conference in partnership with the School of Construction Economic and Management; University of the Witwatersrand in February 2014. The conference focused on advancing construction industry development through innovative research and new thinking in a new age of sustainable and digital technologies. Scam Alert to all Suppliers Registered on cidb Database
It has come to the attention of the cidb that a scam is in operation that fraudulently uses the cidb corporate identity to send out request for quotes (RFQs) followed by purchase orders (POs) for delivery of goods at a specified location other than the cidb premises. Suppliers are advised to be cautious of such practices and to always verify the legitimacy of a RFQ and PO with cidb’s centralised supply chain management unit at 012 482 7368 / 7283 / 7224 before arranging for any delivery. It is incumbent upon each supplier to verify the authenticity of their transactions and the cidb shall not be held accountable for any losses suffered by suppliers through fraudulent activities.

New Construction Industry Indicators (CIIs) Survey Announced
The Construction Industry Indicators are measures of the performance of the industry, focusing on clients, client’s agent / consultant and the cidb registered contractors. Details of previous years CII results are available on the cidb website. The CIIs are currently being captured by the cidb in partnership with the department of Quantity Surveying and Construction Management of the University of the Free State (UFS), and representatives from UFS will be initiating the survey during November 2013. Best Practice Standards Published
The Board approved and published the cidb Standard for Developing Skills through Infrastructure Contracts and the cidb Standard for Contractor Performance Reports for use on Construction Works Contracts (Grades 2 to 9) in August 2013. Details of the Standards are available here.

cidb National Stakeholder Forum Convened on 5 July 2013
The cidb hosted its National Stakeholder Forum (NSF) meeting on 5 July 2013 in Gauteng. The meeting was addressed by Public Works Minister, Thembalani T. Nxesi. In his keynote address the Minister cautioned industry stakeholders against fraud and corruption in the construction industry which he said undermined all efforts towards industry development and transformation. The National Stakeholder Forum is required by legislation to meet with the Minister at least once a year to discuss matters that affect the development of the construction industry. The Forum comprises and was attended by organized labour, organized business, construction industry related bodies, clients and associations.
