Purpose
The Purpose of this initiative is to identify all the legislation that impacts on
the construction industry and to make it easy and accessible to construction industry
stakeholders. It is also intended to empower and transfer knowledge to industry
stakeholders
Background
The initiative was born out of engagements with construction industry stakeholders
in terms of which it was highlighted that the current legislation as it stands is
complex and difficult to understand for most people in the industry. There was a
call to simplify the legislation by summarising and compiling a legislation compendium
for the construction industry. According to the Construction Industry Development
Board Act, (Act No. 38, 2000), the CIDB may monitor national programmes aimed at
amongst others, streamlining regulation and procedures.
"The broad regulatory framework is complex and the cidb will initiate a review aimed
at streamlining this framework in order to strengthen its effectiveness , simplify
practical compliance and unlock delivery bottlenecks." (Status Report, 2004).
