The cidb, Department of Quantity Surveying and Construction Management of the University of the Free State is to host the 5th Post Graduate conference which seeks to explore current advances in construction research relevant to the present and future state of development of the construction industry, nationally and globally.

An independent panel that was appointed by the Minister of Public Works to conduct a 5 year review of the cidb has presented their findings and recommendations to the Deputy Minister of Public Works. The cidb 5 year review was conducted in terms of the CIDB Act 38 of 2000.

Authors are invited to submit abstracts for the 4th Construction Industry Student Conference that is set to take place in Bloemfontein on 16 – 18 March 2008. Papers will be accepted within the broad areas of Construction Industry and Construction Business Development. The Conference is organised by the Department of Quantity Surveying and Construction Management of the University of the Free State and the CIDB.

The International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB) stimulates and facilitates international cooperation and information exchange in building and construction research and innovation, technology development and documentation. It is engaged in the scientific, technical, economic and social domains related to building and construction, supporting improvements in the building process and the performance of the built environment. CIB 2007 will build on the tradition of the triennial congress as the major platform for the presentation and exchange of research and information amongst its members and the industry. The theme of this congress is Construction for Development, focusing on the important role that construction plays in the development of nations.
