industry performance > construction industry indicators
The cidb's Construction Industry Indicators (CIIs) are measures of progress in reaching
the specific objectives of industry development in South Africa. They are based
on a review of international benchmarking and performance indicators for the construction
industry.
These indicators have been measured since 2001, when the project-based pilot measurement
was based on 250 returns from a mix of clients and contractors. Since 2002 the measurement
has included the consulting professions, with approximately 1 000 returns received
each year. As the Registers Service of the cidb becomes established several measurements
will be taken from registers data. For example the measurement of black ownership
and control of contractors can now be undertaken by using data from the Register
of Contractors. In addition to the surveyed indicators, certain key economic indicators
have been included to give an indication of the performance of the construction
industry in the economic context of South Africa.
